With the help of the beer tasting panels from Brewing Research International, a new low colour roasted caramel malt with defined flavour was developed for lager brewing.

The HCGA Enterprise award has enabled the production of a low colour malt, involving twelve months’ extensive pilot malting and brewing trials at BRI, followed by commercial malt production at French and Jupp’s.

Malty, fruity and toffee flavour notes are carried through to the beer. Low malt colour produces a golden orange lager with increased body and fullness. Softer, rounder mouth-feel with improved drinkability.
